Hi all
I know there are a lot of topics on facebook but most of them are very old. so what I wanted to ask on here is how do you access facebook? Do you use the standard web site or the mobile site. Do you use the official facebook apps on IOS and Android, or some other apps. Or do you mix it all in for best results with different facebook features. Basically anything on facebook goes here.
PS: I'm not working for facebook, just curious on how blind and VI are using it.
I use the instant messenger client called Pidgin for facebook chats, and the mobile web site for everything else I do there, which isn't much. I use no apps, games, pictures, 3rd-party connection/authentication, or cross-domain relays.
I use the facebook app. I think it is just the basic one. IDK. It works pritty well for me.
I would like to get a second app on my phone since I am one of those dorky people who also has an app for my dog. You use to be able to download apps twice on your phone. You can't seem to do that anymore.
I use the mobile facebook site, plus the SamNet socializer. which I can explain in more detail for anyone caring to learn about it.
I use the mobile site, and a combination of apps on my iPhone (Status Report if I just want to read status updates, Echofon for Facebook as an alternative to read status updates, and Facebook Messenger to send messages).
I use the mobile site and whatever the basic facebook iphone app is. I'd love to know more about the Samnet Socialiser.
Does nobody use the standard web site? Some time back it used to be absolutely terrible but they have done some work on it so now it's much more navigable by screen readers.
I use both mobile website and the standard website if i'm on a computer. otherwise, will
be the native Facebook app
I just recently signed up and use standard site on a desktop.
I find it a bit of a PITA as it doesn't do what I want in the usual way.
Anyone know how to delete an original topic post? I can delete my replies to other people's posts and thought deleting my own original post would be the same but the edit/delete button isn't there. My sighted friend tells me there is an arrow that you click, but I'm lost.
TIA
I'm not sure on the answer to the last poster's question; I personally haven't started any posts in awhile on FB myself.
I use FB's mobile site for things like accessing my profile, adding/accepting friends, occasionally replying to other's posts, and checking notifications. I use my regular e-mail keep up with what others post and to read and reply to private messages. And I use the app on my phone to keep up with whatever events my FB friends have.
When I was more interested in chatting with FB friends, I would use this IM program called Instant Bird. I would probably either use that again or just chat through the mobile site.
I use Facebook's iPhone app for practically everything, with the exception of editing my profile.
cause, for some reason, certain profile sections are only available to edit via the mobile site.
I've never tried deleting a Facebook status on the main site, but I've done it on the mobile site, and it's easy. Just click on the status you want to delete, and toward the top of the page, you'll find a Delete link.
Even if the full site is more accessible than it once was, I'll keep using the mobile; it has less bloat than the full. Whenever possible, I'll choose the 'lighter' option for a web site.
There's also touch.facebook.com.
I'm not sure how well that version will work with Jaws, I use it to sort my news feed.
A combination of the three is what I use, depending on what I'm doing.
Hey, Brooke, that worked!
Thanks!
What is the apill to using the facebook messager app> I don't have any issues sending messages threw my facebook app i already have. what makes the messager app better?
I have a question about Facebook for iPad actually.
In recent updates, I can no longer get my news feed in chronological order anymore. They say to go to More, then News Feed, then Most Recent. But on iPad there is no More button, not that I can find.
I used to have the iPhone app, but in recent updates it ate considerable battery on my 4S. May put it on again, but anyway, would love to reset this on my iPad, so I see most recent instead of top stories. I really hate that top stories setting!
So if you know about the Facebook app for iPad and know how to reset the New feed to Most Recent, I would be most grateful.
Thanks,
Leo
I despise the "Top Stories" setting. I've tried to set it to Most Recent via the main FB app, and that worked once, lasted for a week, and now is switched again with no way I can figure out to switch it back. I also haven't figured out how to do it from my iPad, because, as Leo said, I don't think there's a "More" button. I hate having the Facebook app on my phone, because it's tough on my battery. But may have to put it back just as a way to read the most recent status updates.
I also use the mobile site with JAWS on my laptop, and the standard site whenever I have to do anything with my band's page. Most of the page admin features aren't available on the mobile site, or if they are I haven't found them yet. I also have the app on my phone that I browse through whenever I'm out somewhere and bored. The top stories thing really annoys me. Can anyone tell me more about changing that either on the app or the mobile site? Thanks in advance.
I use the mobile site, Socal Eyes, and have had my AIM set for chatting to FB friends. I also have it set for email, so I can reply to things from there too.
I used to use TheFriendMail, but that hasn't worked in a long time.
the Socalizer from SAMNet is from saratech and lets you access all different clients from one interface. Personally I don't find SAMNet worth the price, but that's what socializer is in a nutshell.
The new accessible way to access Facebook is through the braille note taker, the BrailleSense. Facebook is available on the BrailleSense w ith the sense software 8.2 update.
I use the mobile site mainly on my PC but occasionally I will use the standard site and of course, I use my iPhone when I'm out and about.
Lio, Brook, and all other people wondering about setting the news feed on the
iPad, I too have no idea if this can even be done.
If you are willing and able to spend $2 in the US app store, the Status Report
app very well could become your best friend.
Unfortunately, this is not a native iPad app, so you will have to search in the
iPhone category, but I promise you all stories are displayed in chronological
order.
I hope this helps.
I also hope FB can stick with one layout longer than a baby keeps a diaper on in
a day. :P
I love the Status Report app, it's been one of my favorites for almost a year.
Hi there all,
Late reply here, but I usually use both main site and the mobile on my desktop. and I have my Skype connected to facebook when I'm chatting.

I use mostly m.facebook.com. The standard website seems slightly complex at least for my personal preference. I have recently set up text messaging. I communicate on facebook messssenger on m.facebook.com. I discovered that messenger on the phone drains the battery quickly, thus I tend not to open that app often. I possess but do not utilize other facebook apps often. I occasionally will open the native facebook app.
I am rather much more of a twitter person.
